NCC 2019 – What to Expect

|
5 MIN READ

Constructive Building Consultants have reviewed the latest NCC changes. The formal adoption date of the NCC 2019 (1/5/2019) is fast approaching. With more than 1000 changes to the wording, definitions and contents of the NCC, it is critical that users start to familialrise themselves with these changes. The most significant change in the NCC 2019 is to the Performance Requirements. With a desire to make performance solutions more appealing and attainable, the Australian Building Codes Board has revised approximately 40% of the code’s Performance Requirements so that they can be quantified either directly or by a NCC Verification Method. There have also been significant layout changes, alterations to energy efficiency requirements, increased fire systems for Class 2 residential buildings, and new verification methods for accessibility, among many other changes. Though many of these changes are easily noticed, others are far more subtle. Ultimately, though, all of these changes will have implications for the safety and compliance of our buildings.
